Mayor and Council Fire Zoning Officer, Hire Former Council Member's Wife

As predicted here earlier today, the mayor and council president brought another off-the-agenda motion to council. As this mayor and council president usually do, they reserve significant action for "surprise" moves. Tonight they terminated former council member and current zoning officer, Dennis Noonan, as the Borough zoning officer. The mayor then compounded his action by ordering the police to escort Noonan from the building. The mayor and council president refused to permit discussion or tell Noonan why they were taking the action, beyond it was had "something to do with a conflict of interest". The mayor and council president said it was a personnel matter they could not discuss. When Noonan said that, as the affected employee, he granted permission to discuss the action, they simply refused to speak any further. The mayor then asked that Jean Simchak, wife of Mike Osaer, former council member and current chair of the Municipal Authority, be temporarily appointed to the position. A current council member indicated this appeared to be part of an effort to undermine and force out the Borough's long-time Borough Secretary, Noonan's wife, Lori Noonan. Lorr declined comment, as she always does, citing a Borough policy forbidding employees from speaking to the press. We will be following up on this and related stories. Watch this space.
