About the Borough Council
The Mount Pocono Borough is governed by an elected-at-large Borough Council which is organized under the Borough Code of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. The Council consists of seven elected officials who serve a four-year term. The terms are staggered so not all the members are up for election at any one time. Borough Council members are elected in odd-numbered years.
Under the Borough Code the Council is charged with the general governance of the Borough to secure the safety, health and welfare of its citizens. The Council accomplishes this through the enactment of ordinances (laws) which govern the various tasks and activities of the Borough. However, the Council is restricted in areas that it can control by both the Borough Code and the laws of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
The Council has one regular meeting a month, on the first Monday. It also has a “work session” on the third Monday each month. The public is invited and encouraged to attend and participate in both.
The meetings begin at 7:00 PM in the Council Room on the second floor of the Mount Pocono Borough Building. From time to time special meetings are called. These meetings will be advertised, usually in the Pocono Record, and on this website. All meetings are open to the public and we welcome you to attend.
If you wish to be placed on the formal agenda to discuss an issue with the Council please contact the Borough Secretary at 570-839-8436, ext. 5, or by email to firstname.lastname@example.org. You are also welcome, and encouraged, to bring an issue to the Council's attention during the public comment section of the meeting.
